Important reminder
If you have not yet changed your voter registration to Libertarian,
please do so as soon as possible. This is especially important if you
are considering running for office in the 2010 General Election. Since
we are a recognized political party under NC law, we will have primary
elections in 2010. In order to file for office as a Libertarian
candidate, you must be registered in the party 90 days prior to
filing. Filing period is from February 8 through February 26, 2010, so
the last possible day to meet the 90 day deadline is November 27,
2009. If you plan to run, I recommend you change registration ASAP, if
you haven't already done so.
Registrations help us in other ways too. The greater our numbers, the
more seriously we are taken. When we were de-certified in 2005, we had
more than 13,000 registered Libertarians. Since regaining recognition
in May of 2008, we have rebuilt our numbers from 0 to 6241. Hopefully
we can recover to the 13,000 mark before Election Day 2010. Encourage
your friends and family to change their registrations. Many of them
are probably dissatisfied with their current party. Suggest they might
have a political home in the LP.
Lawsuit Update
As I mentioned in a recent announcement, our lawsuit regarding NC's
onerous ballot access laws is continuing on to the NC Supreme Court.
Our attorneys are hard at work preparing the appeal, lining up parties
who will submit amicus briefs on our behalf, and doing all the final
paperwork to get our case in front of the NC Supreme Court.
Annual State Convention --Save the Date
The 2010 LPNC Annual Convention is scheduled for the weekend of April
9-11, 2010 at the Quality Inn in Burlington, NC. Please mark your
calendars so you can attend this year's event. Additional details will
be announced soon.
National Convention
The 2010 LP National Convention is May 29-31, 2010 at the Renaissance
Grand Hotel in St. Louis, MO. We need 34 delegates. Please consider
attending this important national party event. We will choose our
slate of delegates at the annual state convention in April. If you
would like to be considered for a spot in NC's delegation, please
contact me at <chair at lpnc.org>.
Executive Committee
Our next Executive Committee meeting will be held December 5 at 11:00
am at The Sagebrush, 800 S. Main St., Graham, NC, from 11:00am until
approximately 4:00pm. All Libertarians are welcome.
County Organizing
Numerous members have taken the lead and helped to organize county
affiliates in several areas around the state. Johnston County,
Cumberland County, and Forsyth County are the most recent groups to
hold or schedule organizational meetings. Cumberland is meeting
tomorrow (Thursday, 11/19) and Forsyth is meeting December 9. For more
details on these meetings, see Coming Events on the LPNC website.
If you are a member in a county that has no official party affiliate
and you would like to help organize a meeting, please contact
<county_organizer at lpnc.org>.
Please donate!
As always, please support the LPNC financially so that we may continue
to field candidates, pursue our legal remedy in the North Carolina
courts, and have a presence at events around the state. Carrying the
message of liberty to the folks of North Carolina is our goal. Please
help by pledging a monthly amount or by sending your best one time
donation.
Donate today!
Thanks for your support.
In liberty!
Barbara

"Those who pretend they want to preserve freedom, while they are eager to fix
prices, wage rates, and interest rates at a level different from that of the
market, delude themselves. There is no other alternative to
totalitarian slavery
than liberty. There is no other planning for freedom and general
welfare than to
let the market system work. There is no other means to attain full employment,
rising real wage rates, and a high standard of living for the common man than
private initiative and free enterprise."
