Hi, gang,
I'm forwarding the information below regarding the upcoming state LP
convention. I also wanted to make sure that the new Mecklenburg County
leadership knows that a county convention must be scheduled a minimum
of thirty days prior to the state convention, to choose delegates.
Also, as a past-US Seante nominee, I have ex officio delegate status,
but that is in ADDITION to our allocation (I don't know yet if I'll be
able to attend, but I hope at least to make a portion of the
convention).
Chris

CONVENTION TIME!
Now that the LPNC has some breathing space to speak to voters without
having to get ballot signatures, we want to concentrate on growing the
Party and working to move North Carolina in a libertarian direction.
An important - and fun! - part of this process is getting the Party's
activists together for our annual convention.

So please make your plans now to be a part of the Libertarian Party of
North Carolina Annual State Convention in Burlington, NC on April
17-19, 2009.

CONVENTION BUSINESS
At this year's convention, delegates will:

* Select a new Executive Committee to lead the Party through the next
election cycle
* Conduct the ever-popular and thrilling biennial review of the Party's bylaws
* Hear from great speakers about NC politics and libertarianism
* Have a great time with fellow activists from around the state and
the country (yes, this IS business - so many good ideas get hatched
over dinner and a brew!)

SCHEDULE
* As always, the convention begins Friday evening with a "Friends and
Family" gathering. Come to share food and drink and fun with fellow
Libertarians. This is an opportunity to catch up with friends from
around the state, put faces with names you might have seen on our
email discussion lists, and just relax and party a bit before we get
down to business early Saturday morning.

* Saturday will be devoted mostly to the Bylaws Committee report.

* Sunday morning we will elect Executive Committee members.

SPECIAL GUEST: MICHAEL CLOUD
An exciting bonus this year is our banquet keynote speaker, Michael
Cloud. Many of you are familiar with Michael from his longtime
involvement with the Libertarian Party, his help with the Harry Browne
presidential campaigns, his books and CDs on effectively communicating
libertarian ideas, and his articles for the Advocates for Self
Government.

In addition to offering a keynote at our banquet on Saturday night,
Michael will also present a campaign training seminar on Saturday
afternoon.

Michael Cloud is Co-founder of the Center For Small Government. In
2002 he also ran for US Senate against 2004 Democratic presidential
nominee John Kerry, winning 19% of the vote - the highest vote for a
Libertarian US Senate candidate ever. He has been politically active
since 1976 and has raised over $8 million for small government
candidates, projects, and initiatives. Michael Cloud is a speechwriter
and a master of libertarian communication. He writes the Persuasion
Power Points column for over 70,000 readers of the Advocates for
Self-Government Liberator Online and is author of the powerful book
Secrets of Libertarian Persuasion.
